Hello! My name is Rachel and I am a studio potter based in Macclesfield. I am very excited to be opening my new studio, Chestergate Pottery, where I will be making pots and teaching small-group classes. Having grown up between Singapore and London, ideas of comfort and belonging naturally find their way into my practice. I make pieces that feel familiar, worn in and comfortable - pots that settle into everyday life.

There is a quiet beauty in utilitarian objects which have been shaped by time and use, and I try to respond to this in my work through soft forms and subtle surfaces. The pots I choose to make reflect some of the ways in which I live, and the things that I enjoy using. I want to make pots that people reach for because they feel like home.

Some of my first lessons in clay were at Mud Rock Ceramics in Singapore, where the studio owners generously gave me the space and encouragement to grow as a maker. I was a studio assistant and teacher at Mud Rock for 8 years.

I continued my training at Clay College Stoke, nestled in the heart of the Potteries. The college's intensive two-year diploma focuses on developing independent studio potters, and gave me the opportunity to learn from some of the most respected makers working today. I graduated in July 2026.
